Exeter in Focus… St Leonards

Within walking distance of the beautiful City of Exeter and the Quayside, St Leonards has a truly village feel and is popular with professionals and families, with excellent local schools and award winning independent shops, restaurants and cafes.

There is a wonderful selection of period properties and it is certainly one of the most desirable places to live in Exeter.

Magdalen Road is a social hub where you will find a parade of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Smiths Wines, is top of my list – Ian Smith’s wisdom and knowledge of wine is endless and his impressive culinary skills are enjoyed at his evening bistros.

Once a year Magdalen Road closes for the Christmas Fair, when all the restaurants and shops spill out onto the street, along with 50 festive stalls.

For recreation try the Coaver Club at County Hall, you can join as a local resident and use the gym, enjoy a drink and take part in social events. Exeter University’s St Luke’s campus has a swimming pool and gym and is open to the whole community.

Families are well catered for, with several nurseries and a great selection of schools. Exeter School and Maynard School are leading independent schools and both St Leonards Primary School and Isca Academy, have excellent reputations.

As St Leonards is so popular property values have increased by over 28% in the past five years.

My Favourites

Smiths Wine Shop. Not only an amazing selection of wines but Ian hosts fabulous bistro evenings in the shop – his truffle mash is divine!

Grocer on the Green. A fellow Exeter Living winner – Danbrings fresh, local, seasonal and organic fruit and veg to Magdalen Road.

Ben’s Farm Shop. Bringing delicious local food from the farm to the city.

Leaf Street. Fantastic selection of gifts and pre loved clothes.

Gibson’s Plaice Fishmongers. They personally buy their own seafood, mainly from small boats in Brixham and it is always fresh and excellent quality.

Meat 59.  Serving delicious handmade gourmet burgers, made with local produce. Great breakfasts too!
